Former Chancery Court Chancellor Andre Bouchard’s Law Firm, Paul Weiss, Has Jeffrey Epstein Ties

Dear Friends,

Folks, as if I need to be proved right another time about the sordidness and corruptness of Andre Bouchard and his cronies, his law firm, Paul Weiss, where he went to after he resigned from the Chancery Court, is mentioned numerous times in Jeffrey Epstein emails, which have been released to the public.

It turns out the chairman of Bouchard’s firm is all over the Epstein files, which puts a pall over America’s First State, our Chancery Court and even our state legislators. The gloom and doom that has dominated our Chancery Court, since Bouchard and Leo Strine took power and took us down this dark path, seemingly cannot be undone as it feels as though this black hole has enveloped our once great state.

The corruption reeks, in my view, and remember, folks, Bouchard gave this law firm $1.7 million in fee awards and they gave him a job while he was on the case.

Look at the Law360 story below, which says the files “released by the Department of Justice over the weekend belonging to the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein show a yearslong relationship between Epstein and Paul Weiss chair Brad Karp, which included dinners, phone calls and meetings, as well as communication related to Paul Weiss client Apollo Global Management.”

Please send your feedback on this, which is always welcome and appreciated.

Respectfully Yours,

Files released by the Department of Justice over the weekend belonging to the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein show a yearslong relationship between Epstein and Paul Weiss chair Brad Karp, which included dinners, phone calls and meetings, as well as communication related to Paul Weiss client Apollo Global Management.

Karp and Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison LLP did not represent Epstein as counsel, but in the words of Epstein in an email to Karp the two were “friends” and communicated regularly throughout a period stretching from around 2013 through at least 2018. Epstein was arrested for sex trafficking of minors in 2019. He was found dead that August in his Manhattan federal jail cell.

Paul Weiss represented Apollo and Leon Black, then its CEO and chairman, in a fee dispute with Epstein in the late 2010s. During that period Epstein reached out to Karp personally on multiple occasions for information and requests related to the dispute, the files released over the weekend show.

In one email in April 2018, Epstein said, “leon said you had a copy of the stock sale [redacted] can you forward to me , ? thcx.” In response, Karp said, “I don’t have this from [redacted]. I believe our friend may have gotten it from M. But please don’t let him know that I shared it. It is supposed to be strictly confidential.”

In a statement Monday, a firm spokesperson said that Karp met Epstein through his representation of Black.

“During the course of that representation, which spanned several years, Mr. Karp never witnessed or participated in any misconduct. Mr. Karp attended two group dinners in New York City and had a small number of social interactions by email, all of which he regrets.”

Karp emailed Epstein personally after some of those dinners, the files show.

“I can’t thank you enough for including me in an evening I’ll never forget … You are an extraordinary host – and your home . . .!!!,” a 2015 email from Karp to Epstein said.

One meeting between the two men at Epstein’s home included Goldman Sachs general counsel Kathy Ruemmler, who at the time was a partner at Latham & Watkins LLP, the files show. Ruemmler’s association to Epstein first came to light in an earlier release of files.

Other emails show Epstein arranged to host Karp, along with Karp’s son and daughter and several other guests, for a private screening of a Woody Allen movie before the movie’s release. And Karp asked for Epstein’s help in 2016 to get his son a role on a production of one of Allen’s movies, the files show.

In 2019, shortly before he was arrested, Epstein texted former White House strategist Steve Bannon that he wanted to get Karp admitted into the exclusive Augusta National Golf Club. “Need to work magic to get brad Karp admitted to augusta golf club,” the message said.

A spokesperson for Apollo Global Management did not respond to a request for comment made by Law360 Pulse Monday.
